We're definitely holding on adding Java 9 to the CI builds, I've just tried it and the build
fails [1] - looks like some of our plugins don't work with Java 9. To add that we'll need
to do some work locally figuring out which versions of plugins are supported with which versions
of Java.

Looks like we've reached agreement to run Java CI only on Oracle JDK 1.8 and OpenJDK 1.7.
I'll update documentation to reflect that and send PR later.
