For the C++ broker, petty much as many as you can get the OS/hardware to 
give you.

Note that the connection count limit is set with

  --max-connections N (500)                 Sets the maximum allowed 

on the broker, so that will need to be increased and you will also need 
to update your ulimits for the
number of sockets the OS will accept depending how high you push it.
