Hello,

My jetspeed 2.2 portal was working fine. But suddenly, the Add Portlet functionality stopped
working. Now when I click on Add Portlet, the add portlet page opens in a new web browser
and the portlet does not get added to the original page.
I am not able to figure out why this has started to happen suddenly.

Please help.

Thanks
Neha

Michael,

There is not a simple way to do this, but it is possible using the
PortalSite component.

The PortalSite component generates a view of the portal folder/page
hierarchy that is used to construct menus. One of the most important
aspects of menus is that they present only what the user is able to
access and, at the same time, everything they can. Consequently, if you
walk the Folder/Page proxy hierarchy returned by the PortalSite, you
will have exactly what you need.

To do this for each user, you need to become the user and then ask the
portal site for the root folder and recurse from there as the user. You
can also ask the PortalSite to return a deep menu of all folders and
pages if you want a comprehensive set of URLs for the user. See the
Security and Profiler valves for hints on how to do this. Feel free to
ask any more detailed questions as they come up.

HTH.

Leveraging Jetspeed security tables to secure access to external resources

Hi,

I have a solution that uses Jetspeed with Alfresco ECM. Rather than create users and access
permissions in both places I plan to access Alfresco content from Jetspeed through a service
account and implement the authorization checks on the front end - in Jetspeed portal. I would
like to see if there is a way to leverage the Jetspeed security tables to achieve this.

Essentially, I have document types and sub types. Specific roles have specific permissions
on document type (in which case they have the same permission on all sub types) or they have
defined permissions on the sub type. All documents related to a document type are stored in
a folder/ space in Alfresco.

I am toying with the idea of using the security_permission table and create document management
specific entries

PERMISSION_ID     PERMISSION_TYPE     NAME                              ACTIONS

XXX                     document                 /doctype                         view, edit

YYY                     document                 /doctype/subtype             view, edit

Is this a valid/ good approach? Or, is there a better way to extend jetspeed security to support
access to external resources?

TIA

You are correct. There is no "Delete Portlet" functionality in the
Portlet App Manager at this time
You can redeploy your portlet.xml minus the portlet to delete it, but
you may end up leaving lots of orphaned portlet instances

> Any thoughts on how to get the borders to show up?
>

Ive been wondering about that myself. So I wrote a little table in my
content:

<table border="1">
<tr><td>test</td><td>hkdslk</td></tr>

And of course the border doesn't show up

By pointing Firebug at the table, I discovered why, it inherits this
setting:

.portlet table, .portlet th, .portlet td {
border:medium none;
font-size:small;
vertical-align:top;
}

as well as:

.jetspeed table, .jetspeed th, .jetspeed td {
border:medium none;
vertical-align:top;
white-space:normal;
}

By removing both, your borders should show up again. You can 'test'
this in Firebug by pressing the red icon next to style leaving

.portlet table, .portlet th, .portlet td {
font-size:small;
vertical-align:top;
}

as well as:

.jetspeed table, .jetspeed th, .jetspeed td {
vertical-align:top;
white-space:normal;
}

I think this is a bug in Jetspeed: we should not be forcing cascading
styles on the inner content by element type.

David, Thanks for the response.

<snip>with the customizer add a new WebContentPortlet to your page and
>then go into edit mode to modify the SRC preference <snip>

That works - I can take it from here.

Thanks,

Right, you just need to point the URL at your file. Of course these
must be hard-coded with html to something like

<img src='/j2-admin/images/picture.jpg'>

or just store your image outside your webapp and serve them up through
apache

Anyway the File Portlet isn't exactly an advanced portlet. If you were
to use JSPs you wouldn't have to hard code the "/j2-admin" part

> "en" 1-byte locale...  I usage a UTF8 encoded html files - the

Im surprised to hear that. Could you please create a bug report in our
JIRA issue tracking system?

Thanks

Right. I understand, I know the feature and it works for me. Its
probably a user experience issue on my part. Sorry. Let me try to
explain it:

1. search on "file" from the Portlet App Manager
2. select the found portlet "ContentViewer"
3. enter a portlet name and enter it in the Clone edit field, i
entered "ApacheContent"
4. press Clone
5. Press the Refresh link (next to the search button)
6. "ApacheContent" should now be near the top of your list, otherwise
search on it
7. Select ApacheContent portlet
8. in the Portlet Details, click on the Preferences tab
9. replace "/_content/menu.html" with "/_content/BillOfRights.html"
10. save
11. make any other changes such as keywords
12. navigate to a page where you would like to add the portlet
13. From the customizer, search on "ApacheContent"
14. add it

> portlet.xml
>
> I can edit that file and change the page that the portlet pulls up.
>
> The issue is that I need to be able to create several of these
> portlets, and
> they need to go to different webpages.
>
> Could that be accomplished by copying/renaming the WebContentPortlet
> files,
> and editing the filename/path so that it points to a different file
> (webapps/demo/WEB-INF/portlet2.xml)?
>
> Any tips on what files would need to be copied/renamed/edited would
> be much
> appreciated.

There are several ways to handle this currently:

* copy and paste the entries in the portlet.xml. Redeploy. Probably
not the most appealing approach as you are just changing one
preference and cutting and pasting the rest
* with the customizer add a new WebContentPortlet to your page and
then go into edit mode to modify the SRC preference. Again, not
perfect and to make matters worse, if you don't set up in
edit_defaults mode, the preference is only good for the current user
* with the customizer add a new WebContentPortlet to your page and
then go into edit defaults mode to modify the SRC preference. Problem:
the WebContent portlet doesn't support edit_defaults mode out of the
box you have to change that yourself (edit_defaults actually stores to
psml)

In the trunk, we are working a new solution with portlet references.
You can create a portlet reference (also called a portlet instance).
If you are interested in working against a pre-release let me explain:

References should be declared in a fpsml files:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<fragment-definition id="definition"
     xmlns="http://portals.apache.org/jetspeed"
     xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
     xsi:schemaLocation="http://portals.apache.org/jetspeed http://portals.apache.org/jetspeed-2/2.1/schemas/psml.xsd

">

   <title>DEFINITION</title>
   <fragment id="wp-definition" type="portlet"
name="webcontent::WebContentPortlet">
       <preference name="SRC">
         <value>http://www.apache.org/</value>
       </preference>
    </fragment>
</fragment-definition>

There will be two UI enhancements to support references:

1. a Portlet Reference Editor to create new references from existing
'real' portlets, and override only specific preferences
2. an enhanced Toolbox (Portlet Selector) that will merge portlet
references with portlets in the portlet selection and search process
(all references will be indexed)

Portlet References are now implemented in the trunk however we have
not yet developed the UI support. These features will be included in
the next release

If the stop action is not available, it means the portlet application

A "Portlet Application" (PA) is a "Web Application". You will see one
or more of these under the /webapps/ directory. Each PA contains
exactly one portlet.xml deployment descriptor. That descriptor file
can contain one or more portlet definitions. So you will find cloned
portlet in the portlet.xml, since its a portlet, not a PA.
Hope that makes sense

I find the whole action processing in Jetspeed annoying. I have
created an issue to re-implement actions in a less complicated, more
easily configurable manner (JS2-1059). The most obvious approach I
took was to comment out the maximize window in jetspeed.properties:

# supported.windowstate = maximized

However doing so has absolutely no effect.

Recommend writing your own custom decorator factory and set it in your
portlet decorator:

actions
.factory=org.apache.jetspeed.decoration.ClearDecoratorActionsFactory

Currently, the factory class is the best place to implement custom
action filtering and behavior

If you working off the trunk, there are a few new features in progress:

# option.actions valid values are: show | hide | dropdown | hover
(default=show)
option.actions=hide
# option.title valid values are: show | hide (default=show)
option.title=show

Hi Mansour

A bit of experimentation and a careful read of JSR 168 and JSR 286 lead me
to believe that this is not a standard thing to do.

  - NORMAL, MAXIMIZED and MINIMIZED are <window-state> values, not
<portlet-mode> values.
  - JSR 168 is a bit ambiguous about window states, but JSR 286 states that
all portlets must support NORMAL, MAXIMIZED and MINIMIZED at a minimum, so
they need not be defined. It seems to make no provision for turning off
support for any of these window states.

So for now I am back to the custom decorator...

Ron

I don't think you gave me enough info to help. What you can do is,
checking hte log files, and try to extract the exact error. If you are
using tomcat, and you didn't change the log file location, it should
be $TOMCAT/logs/jetspeed.log

The error log will tell us little more about the cause.

Hi All

I have a requirement where a portlet should not be able to be maximized
(mainly because it looks rather silly when maximized) Currently I have
written a custom portlet decorator (skin?) that filters out the maximize
icon.

Is there a cleaner/simpler way to do this? I have a feeling that I saw a
maximum window size setting somewhere, but I can't track it down.

From jetspeed.properties you can turn Jetspeed's way of accessing
'portal' (servlet) level parameters as you describe above:

#----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# Until version 2.1, Jetspeed merged portal request parameters with
portlet specific
# parameters, effectively allowing "shared" parameters.
# This is not compliant with the JSR-168 PLT.11, so by default this is
now disabled.
#
# By setting merge.portal.parameters.with.portlet.parameters=true this
feature can
# be "restored".
# In the situation of portal and portlet parameters with the same
name, by default
# the portlet parameters will be provided first in the values array,
but this too
# can be overridden by setting
merge.portal.parameters.before.portlet.parameters=true
#
# Setting both these properties to true will deliver the "old" pre-2.1
behavior.
# Note: for individual portlets, these global settings can be
overridden by setting
# these properties as metadata in jetspeed-portlet.xml
#----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
merge.portal.parameters.with.portlet.parameters=false
merge.portal.parameters.before.portlet.parameters=false

To use public render parameters from the 2.0 spec

You did not specify which version.... here is how to delete portlet
applications

2.1.3:

Login as admin and go here: (assuming running on localhost:8080)

http://localhost:8080/jetspeed/portal/Administrative/palm.psml

press stop then delete or undeploy for the specific Portlet App

2.2:

Login as admin and go here: (assuming running on localhost:8080)

http://localhost:8080/jetspeed/portal/Administrative/pam.psml

press stop then delete or undeploy for the specific Portlet App

--

When I want to delete individual portlets, I generally just remove
them from the portlet.xml and redeploy

Page level help configured in the layout template's portlet.xml,
although none of the layout portlet definitions actually configure it,
so it defaults to

templates/layout/html/columns/layout-help.vm

Its not really much there, but it is localized

So if you wanted to configure help based on this portlet.xml approach,
for all your layout pages (one column, two column etc....) you would
need to declare a help view init parameter something like:

     <init-param>
       <name>HelpPage</name>
       <value>myHelpPage</value>
     </init-param>

I don't know of an easy way to get per page help, but I will consider
that in the next release as we are getting away from the "one layout
per layout variation approach"
