I haven't seen this variant before, but there are two main reasons why preferences
usually fail to load:
- wrong JDK (needs to be >= 1.4.0.2)
- database connection failures
Please check to see if there are any other (db/connection related) errors
and your JDK version is >= 1.4.0.2.
