Have you tried forcing the JVM to run the garbage collector before calling the write method?
I do not know if it will help at all but you can quite quickly make the necessary cahnge to
your code and run it to check.

when you're dealing with large files like that, you might want to try increasing the JVM's
maximum heap size with the "-Xmx" option.
