Subject AW: can we convert excel 95 to excel 97
Date Mon, 24 Jul 2006 12:44:48 GMT
Hi Ravi.

That's using OOo as a server using Java.

Then you'll have to store them from the DB into temporary files (95), then
convert it and then store it again in the DB (97). All that things should be
possible using Java.

At the beginning programming OOo is more p.i.t.ar. than using POI. The so
called UNO programming is similar to COM programming e.g. in C++ according
to what you have to consider.

Regards,	Karl-Heinz.

Hi Karl,
      Thanks for your help.
Actually what we are planning to do is the following.
1.Read excel 95 files from database.
2.Convert them to 97 format and store it into database.

I need to do it programmatically.Does openoffice support this?
I will explore this, but just a quick question.

Regards
Ravi

Hi Ravi.

It's OpenOffice.org (the free counter part to MS Office).

You can download it and first do the step manually. Afterwards you could set
it up in hidden mode in order to convert the files.

It also has a macro language. Possibly you could do the load (95) and save
(97) with macro operations. This would cost much less effort.

You can record macros. So it's easy to obtain code samples.

Hi Ravi.

You can use OOo as a server. In your case you'ld just load the files. If I
remember it right also Excel 95 is a recognized format.

Afterwards you save them as Excel 97.

Hi All,
Can anybody clarify to me the following.
1.Does POI support java APIs to convert excel sheets from
version 95 to 97 or are there
any freewares which can do this job.
The fact is that POI supports excel 97 and we are having 95
sheets which we need to
convert to 97 and use them.

            Your help is really appreciated
Regards
Ravi
