Subject RE: Too Many cell formats
Date Tue, 18 Jan 2005 13:56:05 GMT
Lalith,

Excel caches cell formats and styles, so instead of creating a cell
format for each cell, create cell format objects and reuse them.

For example, if you will be rendering cells with currency, dates,
ordinary text and integers, create four variables as follows:

currencyFormat
dateFormat
stringFormat
integerFormat

Use the HSSF API to instantiate just one format for each cell type that
you are constructing and then reuse those (in this example, 4) formats.

If you don't do this you end up creating an excel document with a bunch
of redundant "header" material and Excel wasn't designed to work this
way. Keep in mind when working with POI, or any other Java API for
Excel that these tools have reverse engineered Excel's file format.
That means that you can do things with the API which Excel was never
intended to do.
