Subject RE: Windows XP/IE - display "inline" problem
Date Mon, 08 Mar 2004 15:55:31 GMT
With a [1] added to the end? Perhaps that may be a clue. That would indicate
the the file is coming from a Cache, and not directly from the web server
:-) [Apologies if you already went through this also]

I went though this in the beginning. The file extension XLS is configured
the same way.
What I noticed also that the file comes to XP with "[1]" added to the name
at the end.
Maybe this is a problem, but I don't know how to prevent it.

I dont think changing things server is the issue here. Its more like a
client XP issue. Is there a different between the configuration of the 2000
and XP boxes -- given that it works on 2000? One thing to look at is
file/associations (i.e. how Windows explorer (not iexplorer) is configured).

I upgraded to Tomcat 5 and Java 1.4 and it is still the same thing.
If I submit the Content-Disposition as "attachment" it works OK, but for
"inline" it opens excel with nothing there or dummy page.
Please, let me know if you heard anything about Microsoft changing their IE
security on XP for inline opening.

Thank you,
Simon

If the user saves the file and than opens manually from Excel it opens OK.
I set Content as "inline" so it supposed to open within the browser.
It works OK on Win 2000 and it fails on XP.
Danny Mui suggested to reset the response (response.reset();) and it worked
ones for the first time we used it.
So, I am upgrading my java to 1.4 and Tomcat to 5.0 to see if this will
resolve it.

Thank you,
Simon

Simon,

If you didn't do first keep a sample excel file on the server and access it
with IE on XP and see what happens. If it behaves the same way then the
problem is somewhere else and we are chasing the wrong thread.

If they both behave the same, you might want to check your IE/Excel
interface. I am not expert in this field though.

Hope it helps.
