Support for array formulas is supposedly implemented in
https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=46989

I tried to tackle it myself but had to give up because of lack of
time. One problem is that the patch is big and the divergence between
it and trunk is big too.
Another problem is that the author didn't address all our comments /
suggestions and the patch is kind of "hacky".

It would be great if someone volunteers to help with it.
