It seems as though it is perfectly possible to insert line breaks into
formulas, but I believe only those that are concerned with the
'presentation' of data. The examples I have found tend to be like this one;

=CONCATENATE("First line",CHAR(10),"Second line")

where the line break is being used to format the appearance of the results
of the forumla evaluation. 

Logically, I do not think it makes sense - my opinion of course - to do
anything like the OP proposed unless the formula is very long and complex
and the aim is to use whitespace to group the various parts together. Even
having said that, I do not know how Excel itself would parse the forumla as
it was originally posted.
