Subject Java IDE and CVS Re: Praveen...your deadline?
Date Wed, 02 Jul 2003 13:40:42 GMT

I am not speaking for Andy (although I have just started working
on the POI project myself). Just offering my 0.02 cents (or [paise).

I am using Eclipse and the CVS plugin. It makes it a whole lot easier
to synchronize the codebase with the CVS repository.

You don't have to use Eclipse ... some other CVS client (Windows or command
line based) ... I like Eclipse because I can work with the code in
the Java perspective easily ... and I have set the classpath once and don't
have to fiddle with it again.

I think what he's trying to say is that we understand you have some
deadlines, but there are quality concerns that need to be rectified in
patch. We're generally lax on coding style but when in doubt use the Sun
published standard +/- the bracket thing.

Patches really MUST be submitted via bugzilla its a BIG BIG pain to patch
from email (they usually are corrupted). Instructions are here:

Unit tests really are NOT optional on this project. Previous iterations
HSSF nearly failed due to inadequate unit tests. Please take time to
the src/test/** tree and check out http://junit.org. Consequently eclipse
has excellent Junit integration.

If there are any questions or there is any way I can help please let me
