Subject [jira] [Created] (PHOENIX-2974) SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT c1, c2,...) throws NPE
Date Wed, 08 Jun 2016 17:57:21 GMT
Lars Hofhansl created PHOENIX-2974:

             Summary: SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT c1, c2,...) throws NPE
                 Key: PHOENIX-2974
             Project: Phoenix
          Issue Type: Bug
            Reporter: Lars Hofhansl
            Priority: Minor

See discussion on PHOENIX-2965.

Phoenix throws an NPE for a query like this: {{SELECT COUNT(DISINCT p1, p2) FROM table}}
	at org.apache.phoenix.parse.FunctionParseNode.validate(
	at org.apache.phoenix.compile.ExpressionCompiler.visitLeave(
	at org.apache.phoenix.compile.ProjectionCompiler$SelectClauseVisitor.visitLeave(
	at org.apache.phoenix.compile.ProjectionCompiler$SelectClauseVisitor.visitLeave(
	at org.apache.phoenix.parse.FunctionParseNode.accept(
	at org.apache.phoenix.compile.ProjectionCompiler.compile(
	at org.apache.phoenix.compile.QueryCompiler.compileSingleFlatQuery(
	at org.apache.phoenix.compile.QueryCompiler.compileSingleQuery(
	at org.apache.phoenix.compile.QueryCompiler.compileSelect(
	at org.apache.phoenix.compile.QueryCompiler.compile(

While not it's not standard and many DBs do not support this, I think we can discuss supporting
this, or at the very least not throw an NPE.
