Naveen Madhire commented on PHOENIX-1663:
-----------------------------------------

Thanks James.

I've setup the Dev environment for development. I wanted to get the feeling of Phoenix before
I start any changes from my side. I've a 6 node Hbase cluster running and when I installed
Phoenix as mentioned in the apache phoenix website, the all the Hbase regions went down. I
sent an email to the dev list to see if anyone can help me that.

Thanks,
Naveen

> Take a look at the typical string functions that are implemented in relational database
systems (http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.1/static/functions-string.html) and implement the
same for Phoenix in Java following this guide: http://phoenix-hbase.blogspot.com/2013/04/how-to-add-your-own-built-in-function.html
> Examples of missing functions include POSITION, OVERLAY, REPEAT, etc.
