Nick Dimiduk commented on PHOENIX-971:
--------------------------------------

I've picked up in earnest the experiments with HS2 as a harness for us. We get a lot of bang
for the buck in terms of "enterprise features" if we can reuse code. Probably it'll benefit
from the necessary perf overhaul that may well be required. Will be back with some numbers.

> Host the JDBC driver in a query server process that can be deployed as a middle tier
between lighter weight clients and Phoenix+HBase. This would serve a similar optional role
in Phoenix deployments as the [HiveServer2|https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/Hive/Setting+Up+HiveServer2]
does in Hive deploys.
