Thanks Geoffrey for the pointer.  I'd (wrongly) assumed that the
configuration file that ships with Gentoo would have been using the
appropriate container and was scratching my head as to why things
weren't working.  Your explanation and the documentation you've
pointed me to clears all that up.

Not only is there a typo in the gentoo mod_perl config, but they've
used the wrong containers.  I'll add this onto the bug report that
I've just found.

Apologies for bothering the list with a problem that is distro
specific, and thanks for taking the time to help,
