Sorry for the slight lag in looking into this one, but I will have a look
shortly. I have the feeling that this is caused by how we 'cache' handler subs
references instead of fetching the method each time (optimization).

Feels to me like that's what causing the problem. I'll investigate some more and
we'll see.
