it's read only on my system:

l /dev/urandom
cr--r--r--  1 root root 1, 9 Dec 10 11:21 /dev/urandom

on the other hand /dev/random is writable:

l /dev/random
crw-rw-rw-  1 root root 1, 8 Dec 10 11:21 /dev/random
