Font subsets have a name which begins with a "tag", which is six random A-Z uppercase letters
followed by +, so for the font you mention its BAAAAA+. That's how you know it's a subset.

PDF encodings are rather complex, and often non-standard. There's no one place in which a
font's encoding is specified. So it depends what your trying to do.
