Maruan Sahyoun commented on PDFBOX-2476:

The rendering in PDFBox went trough quite a lot of changes with the upcoming 2.0 release.
Could you test with the current trunk version. This should have the issues you see resolved.

>                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PDFBOX-2476
>             Project: PDFBox
>          Issue Type: Bug
>    Affects Versions: 1.8.7
>         Environment: CentOS 6.5

>         Attachments: PDFTest.java, test.latex, test.pdf, wrong_visualization.png
> Hi all,
> as mentioned in the title, I'm facing that strange issue using PDFBox 1.8.7. If I open
the generated PDF with Gnome Document viewer, the PDF looks good but, as soon as I try to
load it into a Java JPanel, some symbols are missing.
> Here I've attached:
> * the original .latex file, compiled by simply calling "pdflatex test.latex";
> * the generated PDF file, called "test.pdf";
> * a test program, called PDFTest.java;
> * a screenshot of Gnome Document Viewer and my test applet;
> As you can see in the screenshot, curly and standard brackets, "pi" sign, and the square
root symbols are missing/partially rendered. Am I missing something?
> Thanks,
> Diego.
