Subject [jira] [Commented] (OPENMEETINGS-569) Faulty highperf settings in bat script
Date Sun, 17 Mar 2013 12:19:14 GMT

Marius van Voorden commented on OPENMEETINGS-569:

I'm not familiar enough with software development or with your plans to judge if this is a
I'm also not familiar enough with java to judge if the current settings are any good at all:
they're significantly different from the shell script

Note that I personally use different flags altogether. I got PermGen Space errors, so I googled
a fix for that. I'm running with this line:
set JAVA_OPTS= -Xmx2048m -Xms512m -Xmn256m -Xss1024k -XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC
The last 3 flags are supposedly intended to prevent PermGen space from filling up, but they
might make everything slower in the process.

I have attempted to make a fix by adding a custom red5-highperf.bat to trunk/singlewebapp/WebContent/red5/,
then adding a target to build.XML and calling it similar to the "-patch-red5-server-start-script"
(jrebel) patch, but it doesn't seem to respond to my changes. Apparently something's going
on that I don't understand.

> The current red5-highperf.bat has the following java options:
> set JAVA_OPTS= -Xmx768m -Xms256 -Xmn512m -Xss256k -XX:+AggressiveOpts -XX:+DisableExplicitGC
-XX:ParallelGCThreads=4 -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+UseParNewGC -XX:SurvivorRatio=16 -XX:TargetSurvivorRatio=90
> There are two issues:
> Xms256 is missing an "m"
> Xms needs to be larger than or equal to Xmn
> Suggested fix:
> set JAVA_OPTS= -Xmx768m -Xms512m -Xmn512m -Xss256k -XX:+AggressiveOpts -XX:+DisableExplicitGC
-XX:ParallelGCThreads=4 -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC -XX:+UseParNewGC -XX:SurvivorRatio=16 -XX:TargetSurvivorRatio=90
