Yes, possible. Some discussion took place on this issue [1] but the thread
is not currently active. Adding a name-value under a <vendor-extension> tag
in orm.xsd perhaps would have been a straightforward route. I will check
with the JPA Expert Group to ascertain the response to such a request. 
Having a mirrored 'orm-openjpa.xml' would require to match/merge tags for
the same entity, require overwriting rules etc. Doable but non-trivial.
