alright. so it looks like I had to extends a different class :)

PersistenceMappingDefaults

making progress! thank you.

Now I need to figure out how to override the Sequence generator to 
behave like the old Kodo.  Any tips or hints on that??  Is there a way 
to make it JPA standard, or only OpenJPA?
