Could it have a relation to OPENJPA-2282 ? ( LIKE WITH ESCAPE)

here too , escape is used.

jpql statement boils down to

openjpa.jdbc.SQL - <t 994682772, conn 1389561565> executing prepstmnt
1898280583 SELECT COUNT(t0.ID) FROM APP.testCountWithDate t0 WHERE
