Hi Ravi,

My preference would be for you to just check in the CLEAR_TABLES patch  
without a JIRA, just a good explanation in the commit message. Then  
there's no question about the CLEAR_TABLES patch being connected  
somehow to this issue.

The patch to fix the deadlock seems straightforward enough. Are there  
any performance tests that we can run to see if there is a regression?
