Subject [jira] Created: (OPENJPA-416) Unclear exception if an unknown external value is used
Date Wed, 24 Oct 2007 18:08:50 GMT
Unclear exception if an unknown external value is used

                 Key: OPENJPA-416
             Project: OpenJPA
          Issue Type: Bug
    Affects Versions: 1.0.0, 0.9.7, 0.9.6
            Reporter: Michael Dick
            Priority: Minor
             Fix For: 1.0.1, 1.1.0

If you have specified ExternalValues for a field in an entity the transaction will be rolledback,
but the root exception doesn't provide any information on what went wrong.

Here's an example :

<openjpa-1.1.0-SNAPSHOT-r420667:587896M fatal store error> org.apache.openjpa.persistence.RollbackException:
	at org.apache.openjpa.persistence.EntityManagerImpl.commit(
	at mdd.tests.TestExternalValues.testUnrecognizedExternalValue(
Caused by: <openjpa-1.1.0-SNAPSHOT-r420667:587896M nonfatal general error> org.apache.openjpa.persistence.PersistenceException:
	at org.apache.openjpa.kernel.BrokerImpl.beforeCompletion(
	... 19 more
Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException
	at org.apache.openjpa.kernel.StateManagerImpl.fetchInt(
	at org.apache.openjpa.jdbc.meta.strats.PrimitiveFieldStrategy.update(
	... 23 more

The exception should be made more meaningful.
