It was and is a good idea. Needs folks to push it along is all. That though is a different issue than release size. The release size is issue has to do with the size of our convenience binaries. In 1.10 we tossed out some large/lesser used nars from being automatically included. Theyr'e still built and available just not in the convenience binary of the NiFi app by default. The solution there is to move toward the extension registry in NiFi reg and eventually break apart those into their own releases. That too is just a matter of time/energy.
