Subject [jira] [Created] (NIFI-933) If Bootstrap kills NiFi, should perform thread dump for troubleshooting
Date Sun, 06 Sep 2015 13:20:45 GMT
Mark Payne created NIFI-933:
-------------------------------

Summary: If Bootstrap kills NiFi, should perform thread dump for troubleshooting
                 Key: NIFI-933
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NIFI-933
             Project: Apache NiFi
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: Core Framework
            Reporter: Mark Payne
            Priority: Minor
             Fix For: 0.4.0

When running "bin/nifi.sh stop" there are times when NiFi does not properly shutdown within
the default 20 second shutdown period, so the bootstrap indicates that it is killing the process.
Generally, this means that some thread is not being properly shutdown when NiFi is told to
stop running. In order to help identify these cases, the bootstrap should perform a thread-dump
and write the results to the bootstrap.log file before killing the process.

This could become very verbose, however, so there should be an option in the bootstrap.conf
file to toggle this feature on and off.
