I don't think max-width works in HTML tables quite how you expect.<br>
You can just play with a standalone HTML test. Unless you restrict the
overall width of the table,<br>
the column will grow as much as it needs to to avoid clipping.<br>

indeed do the right thing, but I was hoping to go the &#8220;max-width&#8221;
route, where a column sizes to its content but max-es out to whatever
