yes, that's how JSF works.
It does postbacks.

when you are interested in performing some "tasks" on the submitted values,
do this

<h:form>
....
<h:commandButton action=#{bean.myAction}" .../>
</h:fomr>

public String myAction()
{
  // do the work
  return "tellMeWhereToGo";
}
