You don't need the StartupServletContextListener to use 
MyFaces-TilesSupport. Just add your tiles-definition to your web.xml.

<context-param>
<param-name>tiles-definitions</param-name>
<param-value>/WEB-INF/tiles.xml</param-value>
</context-param>
