Doh!  That was left over from when I was debugging a JIRA fix.  The
fix is that if the node is missing you get a message instead of a null
pointer.  That was in there intentionally to create null pointers.  It
was supposed to come out.

I will commit the fix shortly.  Thanks for the heads up.
