starting with version 3.1 of the compiler plugin, this construct is 
deprecated - because of this problems.

You'll use in future:

 <compilerArgs>
   <compilerArg>Xlint:varargs</compilerArg>
 </compilerArgs>

Vote for 3.1 is currently running.
