As I said previously... it sounds like you will need to add this
feature to the maven-jdev-plugin. Get the source code, add the
feature, and submit a patch to Myfaces/Trinidad so they might include
your addition in a future release.

Here's the source:

If you look at file, you'll see they are
definitely NOT reading the webapp config:
      // TODO: read configuration for war:war goal
      File webappDir = new File(project.getBasedir(), "src/main/webapp");
      // TODO: read configuration for compiler:complie goal
      File outputDir =
        new File(project.getBuild().getDirectory(), "classes");
