For some reason it doesn't work:

    <build>
	<plugins>
	    <plugin>
		<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
		<artifactId>maven-compiler-plugin</artifactId>
		<configuration>
		    <source>1.5</source>
		    <target>1.5</target>
		</configuration>
	    </plugin>
	    <plugin>
		<groupId>org.apache.maven.plugins</groupId>
		<artifactId>maven-war-plugin</artifactId>
		<version>2.0</version>
		<configuration>
		    <archiveClasses>true</archiveClasses>
		</configuration>
	    </plugin>
	</plugins>
    </build>

the WAR file still contains WEB-INF/classes directory with set of *.class
files, and no application JAR file is generated in WEB-INF/lib
