I've been using both in m1 to generate something which resambles RAS like profiles from POMs. Properties are very helpful in m1 (api to access them is not:)) to add some non standard extensions to POMs. For example "my" extenstions included (this was requested by our managment): information about project category, project state and release date. This additional information was then used for generating various non-standard reports. For example (it's not a full picture) I am trying to generate something like http://java-source.net/ from the database of our poms and I need "category" property in POMs to classify projects. So for me it will be quite painful to loose those pom elements in m2. Michal
