Subject [jira] (MRELEASE-800) branch has undesirable commit pattern for git
Date Sun, 11 Nov 2012 14:46:13 GMT
Benson Margulies created MRELEASE-800:
-----------------------------------------

Summary: branch has undesirable commit pattern for git
                 Key: MRELEASE-800
                 URL: https://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MRELEASE-800
             Project: Maven 2.x Release Plugin
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: branch, Git
    Affects Versions: 2.3.2
            Reporter: Benson Margulies

The branch mojo commits as follows if you ask for a new version on the branch and not in the
working copy:

# edit the new version into the working copy
# commit
# branch
# do a 'git revert' to undo the change

This results in a weird history. Better would be:

# checkout -b as it were to make new branch
# edit to put new version in new branch
# commit on new branch
