If you select SharePoint 2007 (3.0) or SharePoint 2010 (4.0) in your
connection, the connector will try to communicate with the plugin, and
the connection will fail if the plugin is not installed.

The "Connection working" implies you are talking to a SharePoint
instance.  There's not enough information provided here to tell what
is happening.  But in general, when setting up a SharePoint
connection, it must point at either the root site or a virtual site.
You cannot point at a subsite.

Also, in general, a good way to set up a SharePoint connection is to
browse to the site you want and then use components off of the
browser's URL.  Understanding what a SharePoint URL's components look
like is thus pretty helpful.  If you provide a more concrete example I
can help perhaps.

That means you were trying to point at a subsite above.  That is not supported.
