For some dependent jars I looked at what changed between releases and concluded that it was
probably safe to go with the most up-to-date version available.  In general, the Apache Commons
releases are safe (as long as you don't go up a whole major version), because they are pretty
strict with backwards compatibility, and there are probably others.  But it sounds to me like
I jumped a major revision here that I didn't intend to jump, so it is probably safer to use
2.8.1 rather than 2.9.1.
