Hi [~olivierfl],

Thanks for reporting this problem.
The call to isValid() was added in r1695839 to help detect stale connections.  Unfortunately,
some JDBC drivers did not implement this method but instead throw exceptions of some kind.
 We can work around the problem by simply catching the exception and treating it as if the
answer to the isValid() question is unknown.

I'll attach a patch shortly.
