Here's your problem:

	public void connect(ConfigParams configParams) {
		if (Logging.connectors.isEnabledFor(Level.DEBUG)) {
			Logging.connectors.debug("Connection instance requested");
		}
	}

You need to have a super.connect(configParams) in there somewhere.
