I the main issue isn't about language-specific limitations or not. Just using
consistent patterns.

i.e., preferring 1.0.0 instead of 1.0 so that when the micro version gets bumped
the pattern is always X.Y.Z.

I like that. Makes it easier to write code in any language if the pattern is
more predictable.
