Giving the code
https://github.com/apache/lucene-solr/blob/trunk/solr/core/src/java/org/apache/solr/schema/TrieField.java#L727
it creates NumericDocValuesField only.
try to define field as multivalued, giving the code it creates
SortedSetDocValuesField.
