In the data/ directory there's frequently a .properties file that contains the name of the
index.#### directory that solr is currently using. Most of the time you can safely delete
all of the index.#### directories that aren't in the properties file. As an extra verification
step you might want to run `lsof` and grep for the index.#### directories your considering
removing prior to removal to see if the solr process currently has any files in the directory
open.
