Sorry - hit reply too early. I edited my config as you suggested, rebooted Tomcat, and I can
still find the doc through the Solr Admin interface even though I can't find it in Luke.

If you are querying solr from a browser can you disable http caching in solrconfig.xml   <httpCaching
never304="true"> and then try again?
