Furthermore, to add one small corollary to my last point: the reason I'm pushing so strongly for no deprecations is that I'd like to kill 2 birds with one stone: address those such as user A or B above (only configuration updates), as well as addressing those users who are compiling and building a SOLR upgrade too.
