Could you try to change 
    sprintf(buffer, "%0*"PRIxMAX, (int) hexdig, hash);
to
    sprintf(buffer, "%0*%jx", (int) hexdig, hash);

or if it still not works
    sprintf(buffer, "%0*%llx", (int) hexdig, (unsigned long long)hash);
