The problem comes when it's loading something like XML.  The CVE issue Uwe linked above is very clear (and slightly terrifying) about how you can break into a system running Solr if you can upload some XML somewhere onto the system - I had no idea that you could run arbitrary Java code within an XML parser, but it turns out you can!
