But your same hypothetical issue can happen inside e.g. codec code if suddenly the codec returns
different things: its exactly the same problem and would be 'hard to enumerate and ongoing'
just like it would be for solr search code!

The fact that the current patch can only 'add' fields does not lessen my concerns: Lucene
works with field names, so if you add 'foo_s' where previously this field matched some dynamic
field '*_s' before, you've effectively changed 'foo_s'.
