Subject [jira] [Created] (SOLR-4440) Developer Curb Appeal: Consider supporting Multicast in dev for discovering other nodes
Date Mon, 11 Feb 2013 22:01:13 GMT
Mark Bennett created SOLR-4440:
----------------------------------

Summary: Developer Curb Appeal: Consider supporting Multicast in dev for discovering
other nodes
                 Key: SOLR-4440
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SOLR-4440
             Project: Solr
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: SolrCloud
    Affects Versions: 4.1
            Reporter: Mark Bennett
             Fix For: 4.2

Some distributed search systems default to multicast to make starting up multiple nodes easier
for developers.

Obviously there could be downsides to this, and it's not considered a "Best Practice" when
doing to production. But it does make setting up your first few nodes more pleasant.

Perhaps this could be tied to the -Dcollection.configName=myConfName so that your nodes don't
randomly join other machines on your network.
