Subject [jira] [Commented] (SOLR-3855) DocValues support
Date Wed, 31 Oct 2012 12:53:36 GMT

Adrien Grand commented on SOLR-3855:

bq. direct: maybe even by default?

What is your motivation to make direct the default? I understand that is requires less memory
but at the same time I'm worried that it would completely depend on the I/O cache for performance
although it could be used on performance-critical paths (sorting, faceting, scoring factors...).

> It would be nice if Solr supported DocValues:
> - for ID fields (fewer disk seeks when running distributed search),
> - for sorting/faceting/function queries (faster warmup time than fieldcache),
> - better on-disk and in-memory efficiency (you can use packed impls).
